Better Still

The Yacht

Better Still has raced in the Lake Ontario 300, believed to be the longest freshwater race on the planet, for the past 6 years. In 2009, when these photos were taken, Better Still had attained her personal best at 62hrs for the 300nm.

The crew have spent the past few years fulfilling their interest in getting Better Still back to her salt water roots by preparing her to enter Route Halifax Saint-Pierre.

The Crew

Crewmembers John Wilkinson, Chris Orr, Rick Verbeek and owner Dave Courtney have been racing together for the past 8-10 years and have completed 5 Lake Ontario 300s over the past six years. A fifth crew along for this race, Gerry Roloson, and Dave raced the Lake Ontario 300 doublehanded three years ago.

Dave is looking forward to the excitement of the race as part of his voyage back to his home town of Arnolds Cove in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland.

All are members of the Lake Shore Yacht Club in Toronto and are excited at the prospect of getting the boat to Halifax and to the starting line for this new adventure.
