Atlantix Express

Atlantix Express is a 45 ft open class, built using a special thin aluminium alloy construction, in Montreal in 2004. So far she has made two Atlantic crossings, the Quebec Saint-Malo Transat race in 2004 with a crew of five and the OSTAR, a single handed race in 2005 from Plymouth England to Newport Rhode Island. Skippered by Yves Lépine she was second across the finishing line.

Atlantix Express is on a diet this year. We already have dropped 1000 lb from her original weight in order to be more competitive in the next races: The Bermuda 1&2 in 2011 the Quebec Saint-Malo in 2012 and the OSTAR in 2013.

Ballasted with 1.4 metric ton of water, she is has a very powerful wide hull that surfs early with moderate wind.

The 5 member crew for “Route Halifax Saint-Pierre” used to be a winning team in the eighties with a one tonner. The team is eager to repeat their winning habits in RHSP if Atlantix Express is at their level!

A confident Yves comments “Should I think the opposite? The answer will be on the water.”
